He has been instrumental in founding and developing over 100 high-tech companies across various sectors, including software, energy, Internet, mobile, electro-optics, and water technology. Vardi's career began in 1969 when he co-founded TEKEM, one of Israel's first software companies. He later served in several key governmental roles, including as Director-General of the Ministry of Development and the Ministry of Energy in Israel. His government service also included economic advisory roles during peace negotiations with neighboring countries. Vardi is perhaps best known for his role as the founding investor and former chairman of Mirabilis Ltd, the creator of ICQ, the first widely used Internet instant messaging service. This venture was a significant milestone in the Internet industry and was later acquired by America Online (AOL). Beyond ICQ, Vardi has been involved with several successful companies, including Answers.com and Gteko, and has served as a strategic advisor to major corporations like Amazon and AOL. In addition to his business achievements, Vardi has been recognized with numerous awards, including honorary doctorates from the Technion and Ben-Gurion University.
