His firms have invested in major companies such as Baidu, Focus Media, YeePay, KongZhong, Skype, Hotmail, Tesla, SolarCity, Coinbase, Ledger, Robinhood, Athenahealth, Box, TwitchTV, SpaceX, Cruise Automation, Carta, Planet, PTC, and many others. A leading advocate for Bitcoin, blockchain technology, ICOs, and cryptocurrencies, Tim gained widespread attention in 2014 by winning the US Marshals auction with a bid on 50,000 bitcoins. He has since invested in over 50 crypto companies and has led investments in Coinbase, Ledger, Tezos, and Bancor, among others. Tim is also credited with creating viral marketing, a method for rapidly spreading an electronic service from customer to customer, which played a crucial role in the success of Hotmail, Skype, and other applications. Regularly featured on major networks, in publications, and on social media, Tim is a staunch proponent of entrepreneurship, innovative governance, free markets, and Bitcoin. His contributions have earned him numerous accolades, including the World Entrepreneurship Forum's "Entrepreneur of the World." He has been recognized on several prestigious lists, such as Worth Magazine's top 100 most influential people in finance, Crypto Weekly's top 20 most influential people in crypto, AlwaysOn's #1 most networked venture capitalist, #7 on the Forbes Midas List, and #48 most influential Harvard Alum. Tim founded Draper University of Heroes, a residential and online school in San Mateo, California, to further his mission of promoting entrepreneurship, dedicated to helping extraordinary individuals achieve their life goals. Alumni of the school have established 350 companies, including crypto leaders QTUM, Spacecash, DataWallet, and Credo. Tim holds a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University and a Master of Business Administration from Harvard Business School. He also has two honorary doctorates from The International University and Trinity College of Dublin.
